I has been a VERY long time since I have written a blog post. I have been busy balancing Ollie my 15 month old son into the mix of jewellery making, teaching and getting back into the world of shows and open studios.

So whats new?

6th June 2014

So I am expecting a little baby boy in October. As a self employed lady and jewellery making obsessed lady, I will still be carrying on with my business. I am also dedicated to family so I have decided although I will continue with my business and Christmas orders, I will not be doing any shows until Autumn 2015 so I can stay working from home raising the little one while also cracking on with orders around child care duties and of course I will be resuming evening and weekend teaching after the Christmas break.

Yesterday I spent the day with Julie at The Surrey Jewellery School to get to grips with how she handles her classes. I have now passed my PTLLS teaching course which allows me to teach at adult education level and I can't wait to get started.

I will be working with The Surrey Jewellery School this year running several chain making courses. The Surrey Jewellery School is based in Mayford which is just between Woking and Guildford. I will also be teaching at The Westend Centre in Aldershot and also hope to teach at many other adult education centres within Guildford.

Yipppee I have passed my PTLLS course!!!! I started a long distance learning course in December to allow me to get into teaching. I love meeting other makers of all abilities and would enjoy nothing more than to teach some of the methods I learnt myself through short courses, so I took the leap! I really value short courses and work experience, it really taught me the skills I use each day - of course with some practice thrown in for good measure!

This week I made my first statement piece in recent years. My work tends to be relatively small so it is suitable for everyday wear, but this year I thought I would enter Goldsmiths Craftsmanship and Design Awards.

I am really pleased to have been selected for RHS Wisley Craft in Focus 2014. It is a fantastic event that I have always aspired to take part in. It is a 6 day event located within the fantastic location of RHS Wisley, near Guildford and Woking. Wisley itself boasts stunning grounds, an amazing plant centre and also lovely coffee shops and cafes dotted around the serene grounds.

Each year, Liberty London provides designers with the fantastic opportunity to meet their team of buyers. It is an amazing opportunity, and to my knowledge, no other leading department store does this. Liberty is steeped in history, having been founded in 1875. It is a prestigious designer outlet and they work hard to source unique, vivid, and high end products from leading designers.

So another new year is upon us, hurrah! I am indeed trying to follow some new year resolutions, dry January, no chocolate, no crisps etc. I have failed two of these, chocolate and crisps are essential for living though right?!

20th October 2013

Yesterday was a grim rainy Saturday; alas I ventured out to visit Festival of Crafts at The Farnham Maltings. I have exhibited there for two years previously, but this year I am heading to Desire in Winchester so was unable to apply this year. It did however give me the opportunity to go as a visitor and really enjoy what was on offer and meet other makers.

I visit IJL every year, it is a great opportunity for me to see the new talent emerging, see how hew technology is aiding the industry and also allows me to purchase materials – particularly stones. I also love to see the way in which each exhibitor designs their stand. Some stands are really creative and inspiring like little wonderlands of creativity you want to step into. I could easily spend an entire day wandering and exploring IJL, but this year I was limited to two short hours.
